The Vineyard
Our Home Ranch Vineyard on Occidental Road and our Slusser Road Vineyard are the
sources for this estate Chardonnay. Both vineyards are managed to maximize fruit
quality.
Vintage Notes
In most seasons HANNA's aggressive crop thinning, careful canopy mangement, and Burgundian winemaking techniques suffice to produce an exceptional Chardonnay. 2006 was not one of those seasons. The 2006 growing season presented many challenges to Chardonnay growers in the RRV. A long, wet winter got the vines off to a late start. Ample ground water resulted in rapid shoot growth; which required multiple canopy mangement passes. Clusters were not abundant, but were unusually large. A cool summer, with the exception of a strong of 100+ (degrees F) days in July held back ripening. Then a cool, moist, early fall, followed by rain in early October promoted growth of Botrytis, forcing them to make mulitple passes in the vineyard to pick the cleanest fruit. Hand sorting was critical to including only the highest quality grapes possible for this 2006 vintage.
Tasting Notes
Flavors of tropical fruit and spice, medium body and long smooth finish.
